In the beginning of a backgammon game you should slot a lot (which means that you put a checker where you really would like to make a point)
fx on opening rolls like 21 and 51 you should slot your own 5 point (which is called the golden point, because it is the most important point to make)
So always remember to slot your 5 point and your bar and do the same on your opponents 5 point and his bar... But later in the game it gets not so important then it gets more important not to get hit and sent all the way back again...
In opening rolls like 64,63,62,23,41 you should split your back checkers and bring one down from the midpoint, its always important to split so if your opponent will split you will have a double hit and its also important so you can make an advanced anker so you wont loose so many gammons...
On 31,42,53 you make a point in your own board, and 61 makes your bar which is important, all these rolls are very good rolls for you...
65 you can run all the way from the back with one checker this is also a good number...
54 you either take 2 men down from the midpoint if you need gammon, or simply take one down and split from behind...
52 is a little like 54 you can either take 2 men down, or split from behind, it depends on how much it means if you loose gammon, in money games it doesnt matter which move you do...
One thing i will tell you about the cube play is, if you are being doubled you should take if you think there is about 25% winning chances if we say not much gammons, of course this will change if you are playing a match and you either are in the lead or are trailing...
